District Pinewood Derby

The District Pinewood Derby was held February 27th at the American Legion Post 16 Hall in Covington. The event was sponsored by Pack 85. Thirty five Cub Scouts raced in the 2010 District Pinewood Derby and twenty six in the Show and Shine competition. These were the best in the District and by the racing and looks of the cars, that was evident. All of the Scouts showed great sportsmanship and had a great time.

The Show and Shine winners were:
1st place - Blake Loper #49 with "Speed Racer"
2nd place - Nicholas Vining #12 with "Lucky Dog"
3rd place - James Sonnier #45 with "Blow up the Colts"

The race winners were:
1st place - John Robert #15 with "Speedy"
2nd place - Louis Barreca #9 with "Money Car"
3rd place - Christopher Wauldon #54 with "Speed Demon"

I would like to recognize one racer who showed great sportsmanship. While proceeding to the second round, the process of elimination was flawed and one racer was not included and was erroneously eliminated. Ontone Pelton of Pack 119 was asked if he would be willing to allow the racing to continue and he agreed. At the next Pack 119 event, he will be presented with an "Exceptional Sportsmanship Award" to recognize his selflessness. Thank you Ontone!
